Book review: Americanah

Reading Americanah felt me with joy and excitement. It is a story of love and race, centered around a young Nigerian couple, who face difficult choices and challenges in the countries they come to call home. The story unfolds in three different continents: America, Africa and Europe. It gives an insight about the experience Africans get, when migrating into a foreign country.

Thanks to Minna Salami (Ms Afropolitan, blogger), who introduced me to the works of the author Chimamanda Ngozi  Adichie in the first place. I was once brought along to the screening of Adichie´s – Half of a Yellow Sun. That also is a masterpiece of itself, telling a story of two sisters during the Biafran War.

The gift of reading should be cherished as a treasure. I can´t imagine how long and boring my commute around the city of London, my free time would be if not equipped with books. I hadn’t yet read much of African literature before but I must say with this book and her amazing writing style, I hope a new generation of readers will be attracted to start from here.
